New Prairie Lady Cougars Golf Team placed 3rd out of 11 teams at the State Sectionals shooting a 383 which is the second lowest sectional score in the team’s 49 year history. Placing 3rd qualifies the Cougars to play in the State Regionals next Saturday.
Leading the team was Sophomore Jaiden Winters with an 89, followed by Freshman Jenna Bauman 93, Senior Jordan Winters 98, Senior Zoie Martinez 103 and Freshman Jayden Flagg 107. Reese Wilson of Culver Military Academy was medalist with a 75. Coach Bruce Watson in his third year at New Prairie stated that he had set two goals for the team this year: 1) finish in the top half of the NIC and 2) qualify for the regionals. We have work very hard on all aspects of our game and have accomplished both of our tough goals. The ladies have learned some great lessons in self-discipline, perseverance, and teamwork which will come in handy for the rest of their lives.
Being only the 3rd team in school history to qualify for the regional, and earlier in the year, shooting a 368 to tie the low 18 hole score in school history, and later breaking the all-time low 9 hole score of 174 by shooting an excellent 170 are somethings they will share with their grandchildren later in life. Their names are forever written in the history book of New Prairie Schools. The ladies were once again excellent representatives of the New Prairie Schools and the greater New Prairie Schools community.
