A cold April afternoon found familiar conference foes of South Bend Riley Wildcats and New Prairie Cougars facing off against each other once again. The Cougar defense came out a little sluggish but, was able to shut down the Riley offense with a double play and a fly ball catch by Megan Pinter. Riley Wildcats held the Cougars scoreless in the bottom of the 1st with Johnson getting three K’s. Top of the 2nd the Cougars held Riley to three up 3 down and, in the bottom the Cougars inning started with Amanda Trojanowski getting on base with a drive too right and Ashley Sonnenberg getting an RBI with a solid hit taking the lead 1-0. Top of the 3rd the New Prairie pitcher Karissa Gilpin struck out the side with three K’s and, the Wildcats responded by holding the Cougars scoreless. The Cougar’s 4th started with Amanda Trojanowski drawing a walk and Megan Pinter put the ball in play and safely made it on base after a fielder’s choice. Kiley Briner loaded the bases with a solid single. Lauren Fadke singled for an RBI. Carli Tharp then drew a walk to bring in Megan Pinter. The Wildcats were able to get the next two batters out to end the inning. The top of the 5th and the Cougars are up 3-1. and a ground ball to Carly Tharp and two strike outs by Karissa Gilpin ended the top of the inning. The bottom of the 5th McSurley Hits a double and scores on a wild pitch. Cougars held the Wildcats scoreless in the 6th and, added another run with an RBI by Gilpin bringing in Tharp in the 6th. Gilpin adds three more K’s in the 7th to end the game.
