The New Prairie Cougars lost a tough match up to the Marquette Blazers by a score of 3 – 0 at home tonight.
The Cougars played hard throughout the contest, playing tough defense and threatening repeatedly throughout the game. The Blazers got on the board midway through the first half on an unfortunate own goal by a Cougars defender. The Blazers got another score with 4 minutes to go in the first half. Two of the bright spots for the Cougars were Seniors Jonathan Bello and Griffen Onnink, with Jonathan surging up the left sideline and Griffen dribbling around numerous players then passing to create multiple opportunities.
The 2nd half started poorly for the Cougars, with a blown assignment allowing the Blazers to pick up another goal within the 1st minute of the 2nd half. The Cougars tightened up after that, repeatedly denying the Blazers and threatening the Blazers goal. However, he Cougars were unable to find the back of the net, hitting the post 3 times in the 2nd half and missing a shot on a wide open goal.
The Cougars play next on Wednesday, Sept 16th against Washington High School at 5 PM. The game is an away game.
