The New Prairie Men’s Cross Country Team competed in the IHSAA State Finals in Terre Haute, IN, on November 2nd, 2019.
The team placed 22nd among a field of 25 teams (215 runners). New Prairie, ranked 48th in the state coming into the race, defeated Lake Central, ranked 42nd, Northview 37th, and Columbia City 27th . New Prairie started the season ranked 68th yet finished 22nd in the State Finals among all 412 schools in the state of Indiana.
Each member of our team raced on a saturated course with moderate wind among the state’s finest. The Midwest is considered the #1 area of our nation for competitive high school cross country racing and our national performance per capita ranks Indiana as the best in the Midwest. Our state meet is said to be one of only 3 in our nation who run a single class state finals, so simply qualifying in our state is a greater task than is asked any other cross country system in any other state. What a team and what season!
