The New Prairie boys cross country team competed on their home course Saturday morning in the IHSAA Regional. Facing a fast field and cool racing conditions, the Cougars battled with grit and pride to close out a strong postseason. Junior Braden Bachmann once again led the way for the Cougars, delivering a standout performance to finish 19th overall in 16:18.5, earning individual qualification to the IHSAA State Finals next weekend in Terre Haute. Bachmann’s effort marks a special milestone for the program as he becomes the 54th different New Prairie boy in school history to qualify for the IHSAA State Cross Country Tournament. His time also ranks him as the 17th fastest New Prairie boy ever on the home course, adding his name to an elite list of Cougar greats. Mitchell Walls turned in another strong race to finish close behind in 17:21.3, continuing his consistent postseason and stepping up as a reliable second man for New Prairie. The remainder of the varsity squad, Evan Wiesemann (17:43.0), Ayden Carpenter (17:39.3), Aidan Jaronik (18:11.5), and Lukas Hannewyk (18:57.6) each raced with toughness and composure, closing the season with pride and representing the program with excellence. With Bachmann advancing, the Cougars will once again be represented at the IHSAA State Meet next Saturday, where he will compete among Indiana’s best. The team, coaches, and community are proud to see New Prairie’s tradition of excellence continue on the state stage.
