New Prairie senior Braden Bachmann captured the individual IHSAA Sectional championship Saturday at New Prairie, leading the Cougars to a third-place team finish and helping the team advance to next week's IHSAA Regional Championship on its home course! Bachmann's winning time of 15:58.70 now ranks eighth on New Prairie's all-time home-course list. Behind Bachmann, the Cougars put together a strong team performance against a deep sectional field, finishing third with 111 points — just one point ahead of Mishawaka (112) and behind LaPorte (72) and sectional runner-up Penn (33). Ayden Carpenter continued his strong season by finishing 12th in a new personal-best time of 16:52.10. Carpenter broke the 17-minute barrier for the first time, moving to 33rd on New Prairie's all-time home-course list! Rounding out the scoring five, Aidan Jaronik finished 31st in 17:41.20, Evan Thibodeau placed 32nd in 17:41.80, and Isaac True finished 35th in a new personal-best time of 17:46.91. Lukas Hannewyk also turned in a solid performance, finishing 51st in 18:43.00, while senior Chase Shelton fought through a tough race to place 73rd in 20:37.10. With their sectional performance, the Cougars have earned another opportunity to compete on their home course, where they will look to continue their season at the IHSAA Regional Championship on October 24.
