The New Prairie boys cross country team competed in the Northern Indiana Conference Stomp this morning at Oxbow Park in Elkhart, battling to a 5th-place team finish with 130 points. Penn won the team championship with 27 points, followed by Mishawaka (65), South Bend Adams (113), and Saint Joseph (126). Leading the way for the Cougars was senior Braden Bachmann, who delivered an outstanding performance to capture the individual NIC Stomp title. Bachmann ran 16:15.91 to win the race by more than 12 seconds over Penn's Brody Lederer. After mixing it up with the front pack throughout the race, Braden pulled away from the field to earn the win and fastest time by a New Prairie athlete in over 11 years. Braden is now 16th on the all-time list for New Prairie athletes at away courses! New Prairie's next four scorers continued to put together a strong team performance. Aidan Jaronik finished 30th in 18:02.68, followed by Ayden Carpenter in 34th at 18:14.64. Isaac True ran 18:54.95 to finish 52nd, while Lukas Hannewyk rounded out the Cougars' scoring five in 67th place at 19:21.05. The Cougars also received solid efforts from their remaining runners. Chase Shelton finished 81st in 19:54.09, Sullivan Young was 84th in 19:57.81, and Owen Otwinowski crossed in 20:34.26. Jackson Firanek followed at 20:53.85, while Mitchell Walls finished in 21:08.07 and Ryese Lake in 21:08.46. Ricky Corbett finished in 21:17.94. Kyler Severance rounded out the team with a strong 23:19.20. The NPCC boys will be back in action on August 29th at the Prairie Heights Invite.
