NP Track Competes Against SB RIley

The New Prairie boys turned in several strong performances Tuesday night in a competitive dual meet against South Bend Riley, while the Cougar girls battled throughout the evening with standout efforts in both the distance events and field events. For the boys, New Prairie was led by a dominant performance in the 400 meters, sweeping all three scoring positions. Maddox Waltz won the event in 56.69, followed by Evan Wiesemann in 57.24 and Sullivan Young in 57.36 to give the Cougars a key nine-point event sweep. New Prairie also controlled the shot put, sweeping all three scoring spots. Oscar Barrett won the event with a throw of 38-11, Elijah Schuck placed second at 37-9, and Landon Halderman finished third with a mark of 36-5.5. In the hurdles, Graham Wiard captured the 110 hurdles in 18.22, while Noah Oberle won the 300 hurdles in 42.83. Wiard added a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles. The Cougars picked up important distance points throughout the meet. Braden Bachmann finished second in the 800 meters in 2:07.48, while Wiesemann added another runner-up finish in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:58.48. In the 3200 meters, Lukas Hannewyk and Ayden Carpenter finished second and third respectively. New Prairie also had a strong showing in the long jump, where Grayson Goodman won with a leap of 19-1 and Leone Gennari placed third. Additional scoring performances for the boys included: Noah Oberle placing third in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes Leone Gennari finishing second in the 100 meters and third in the long jump Maddox Waltz placing third in the 200 meters Kaiden Szmanda-Klein taking third in discus The 4x400 relay team winning in 3:50.80 For the girls, New Prairie was led by strong distance performances. Jillian Firanek and Natalie Klemczak finished first and second in the 1600 meters against SB Riley, while Raegan Bicker won the 3200 meters in 12:59.39. The Cougars also earned a victory in the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:54.58. On the sprint side, Isla Wood placed second in the 200 meters and third in the 100 meters, while Eliza Leslie scored in both sprint events and added a third-place finish in the high jump. In the hurdles, Aubrey Schelstraete finished second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles. Cora Buss added points in multiple events, including a second-place scoring finish in the 800 meters against SB Riley and a third-place finish in the long jump. In the field events, Addison Miller placed second in discus and third in shot put for New Prairie.
