New Prairie Track Invitational: Cougars Set the Tone with Record-Breaking Night

The New Prairie Cougars turned in a strong all-around performance at their home invitational, highlighted by multiple meet records and a deep list of top-eight finishes across both the boys and girls lineups. Record-Breaking Performances Lead the Way New Prairie athletes wasted no time making history, setting several new meet records on the night. On the boys side, Braden Bachmann surged to a meet record in the 1600m, winning in 4:34.48, while teammate Aidan Jaronik followed with another record-breaking performance in the 3200m (10:40.59). In the hurdles, Noah Oberle lowered his own standard in the 300 hurdles, winning in a blazing 41.84. The Cougars also rewrote the record books in the 4x100 relay (Grayson Goodman, Leone Gennari, Maddox Waltz, and Graham Wiard), as the New Prairie squad raced to a 46.84 finish. In the field events, Grayson Goodman soared to 19'1.5" in the long jump for another meet-best mark. For the girls, Mikaela Wilson delivered a standout performance in the 800m, breaking the meet record with a winning time of 2:27.13. Madelyn Lower added another record in the 1600m (6:00.74), and the Cougars’ 4x400 relay team (Mikaela Wilson, Bailey Futa, Aubrey Schelstraete, and Isla Wood) capped the night with a record-setting 4:30.77. Boys Highlights (Top 8 Finishers) The Cougars showed impressive depth across the track events. In the sprints, Maddox Waltz placed third in the 100m and followed with a runner-up finish in the 200m, while Leone Gennari added a third-place finish in the 200m. Sullivan Young contributed in both the 100m (5th) and 400m (6th). In the 400m, Evan Wiesemann led the team with a fourth-place finish, and also returned to place second in the 1600m. The distance group had a strong showing overall, led by Bachmann’s win in the 1600m and Jaronik’s victory in the 3200m. Isaac True added a third-place finish in the 3200m, with Evan Thibodeau (4th) and Joey Smith (5th) rounding out a dominant effort. In the 800m, Chase Shelton secured a second-place finish, while Lucas Otwinowski (6th) and Mason Skoglund (8th) added points. The hurdle crew was led by Noah Oberle, who won the 300 hurdles and placed fifth in the 110 hurdles, while Graham Wiard finished third in the 110 hurdles and added a sixth-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Relays were another strength for the Cougars, as the 4x100 team captured first, and the 4x400 relay placed first, while the 4x800 relay (Noah Wroblewski, Chase Shelton, Lucas Otwinowski, and Ryese Lake) finished second. In the field events, Grayson Goodman led the way with a win in the long jump, while Graham Wiard added a fifth-place finish. In the throws, Elijah Schuck (1st) and Dorian Kieszkowski (2nd) went 1-2 in the shot put, and Landon Halderman led the discus with a runner-up finish, followed by Robert Putz in third. Girls Highlights (Top 8 Finishers) On the girls side, New Prairie showed strength in both sprint and distance events. Isla Wood led the way in the sprints, winning both the 100m and 200m, while Eliza Leslie added a second-place finish in the 100m and fourth in the 200m. In the 400m, Olivia Rice placed second, with Alexis Hyatte finishing fourth. The middle-distance group was particularly strong, as Mikaela Wilson won the 800m in record fashion, followed by Janice Felker (2nd), Ella Sanford (3rd), and Natalie Klemczak (4th) in a dominant team performance. In the 1600m, Madelyn Lower claimed victory and a meet record, while Raegan Bicker finished second and Sophia Hackett added an eighth-place finish. Jillian Firanek picked up another win in the 3200m, with Chloe Woodrick finishing second. The hurdles saw Bailey Futa earn runner-up honors in the 100 hurdles and win the 300 hurdles, while Aubrey Schelstraete added a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles. In the relays, the Cougars placed second in the 4x100 (Eliza Leslie, Isla Wood, Aubrey Schelstraete, and Alexis Hyatte), while the 4x400 relay captured first with a meet record, and the 4x800 relay (Olivia Rice, Jill Firanek, Natalie Klemczak, and Afton Maynes) also earned a victory. In the field events, Bailey Futa placed third in the long jump, while Aerabella Churchill added a fifth-place finish. In the high jump, Eliza Leslie cleared for fifth, with Aerabella Churchill also placing seventh. In the throws, Chloe Deutscher led the way with a win in the shot put and a second-place finish in discus, while Emma Deutscher added fourth-place finishes in both events.
