Cougars Claim Multiple Titles in Strong Showing at Penn

The New Prairie Cougars traveled to Penn High School on Tuesday and turned in a strong showing, highlighted by several event victories and top-four finishes against a competitive field. On the boys side, distance standout Braden Bachmann led the way with a dominant performance, winning both the 1600 meters (4:38.90) and the 3200 meters (10:02.05). He was joined in the 3200 by teammates Lukas Hannewyk and Aidan Jaronik, who placed 3rd and 4th, respectively, giving the Cougars three of the top four spots in the event. The hurdle crew delivered another big highlight for New Prairie. Noah Oberle captured first place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.42, while Graham Wiard added a 2nd-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. In the 400 meters, Evan Wiesemann turned in a 4th-place finish to represent the Cougars among the top competitors. The 4x800 relay team of Braden Bachmann, Evan Wiesemann, Aidan Jaronik, and Chase Shelton secured a victory for New Prairie, finishing 1st with a time of 9:00.02. On the girls side, the Cougars matched that success with several top finishes of their own. In the distance events, Janice Felker claimed the 1600-meter title in 5:48.24. She was followed by strong performances in the 3200, where Raegan Bicker captured 1st place and Jillian Firanek added a 3rd-place finish. The hurdle group was a major contributor as well. Bailey Futa placed 2nd in the 100-meter hurdles before returning to win the 300-meter hurdles in 50.48. Aubrey Schelstraete also placed 3rd in the 300 hurdles to give New Prairie two athletes on the podium. In the sprints, Isla Wood earned a 4th-place finish in the 100 meters, while Olivia Rice added a 3rd-place finish in the 400 meters. The middle-distance group contributed valuable finishes, with Jill Firanek placing 3rd and Natalie Klemczak taking 4th in the 800 meters. Klemczak also added a 2nd-place finish in the 1600 meters. New Prairie also claimed 1st place with a time of 4:32.09 in the 4x400m relay (Isla Wood, Mikaela Wilson, Olivia Rice, and Bailey Futa)
