Varsity Lady Cougars Split Doubleheader at Chesterton on Saturday

Game 1 Klingberg collected three hits in four at bats, as New Prairie Varsity Cougars defeated Chesterton 11-6 on Saturday at Chesterton High School. Klingberg singled in the first inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the seventh inning. New Prairie Varsity Cougars got on the board in the top of the first inning after Klingberg singled to center field, and Harris flew out, each scoring one run. New Prairie Varsity Cougars added one run in the second after New Prairie Varsity Cougars scored on a wild pitch. In the top of the sixth inning, New Prairie Varsity Cougars went back into the lead after Strakowski singled to the left side of the infield, Pease grounded into a fielder's choice, Colanese singled down the right field line, and New Prairie Varsity Cougars scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run. Humes earned the win for New Prairie Varsity Cougars. The hurler surrendered seven hits and six runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out two and walking six. New Prairie Varsity Cougars collected 10 hits in the game. Harris and Humes each drove in two runs for New Prairie Varsity Cougars. Strakowski collected two hits for New Prairie Varsity Cougars in four at bats. New Prairie Varsity Cougars turned one double play in the game. Game 2 Chesterton defeated New Prairie Varsity Cougars 14-4 on Saturday at Chesterton High School. New Prairie Varsity Cougars opened the scoring in the first after an error scored one run. New Prairie Varsity Cougars scored two runs in the top of the third on a home run to right field by Keck on the sixth pitch of the at-bat. Keck led New Prairie Varsity Cougars with three runs batted in. The third baseman went 2-for-2 on the day. Next up for New Prairie Varsity Cougars is a game at South Bend Riley on Tuesday.
