The New Prairie High School Cougars turned in a strong all-around performance at home against South Bend John Adams High School on Wednesday night, highlighted by event wins, depth across the lineup, and several standout individual efforts on both the boys and girls sides. Boys Recap New Prairie’s distance crew led the way with multiple victories and dominant pack running. Braden Bachmann controlled the 800 meters from the gun, earning the win in 2:06.94, and later doubled back to take the 3200 meters in 10:36.09. He was supported by a deep group in both events, including Aidan Jaronik (4th, 800; 1st, 1600 in 4:56.94), Lukas Hannewyk (2nd, 1600; 3rd, 3200), and Isaac True, Ryese Lake, Ayden Carpenter, and Evan Thibodeau, all of whom contributed key finishes in the distance races. The Cougars also showcased their depth in the 1600 meters, sweeping the top two spots with Jaronik and Hannewyk while placing four athletes in the top five. In the 3200, New Prairie claimed five of the top six places, a clear demonstration of strength and endurance. On the track, Maddox Waltz led the sprint group with a 3rd-place finish in the 100 (12.03) and added a 4th-place finish in the 200 (24.82) along with a strong 400 (56.58). He was joined by Sullivan Young and Lucas Halderman, who consistently scored across the short sprints. Additional contributions came from Noah Wroblewski, Ivan Magee, Noah Grondsma, Ethan Marshall, Connor Geisel, and Jayden Schwartz, all adding depth across sprint events. In the hurdles, Graham Wiard captured the 110-meter hurdles title (19.75) and later added a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles behind teammate Noah Oberle, who won convincingly in 42.11. Field events were another area of success. Grayson Goodman took first in the long jump (18-5.25), with Wiard finishing second. In the throws, New Prairie dominated discus with a 1-2 finish from Robert Putz (111-10) and Landon Halderman (109-8), while Kaiden Szmanda-Klein, Elijah Schuck, Dorian Kieszkowski, and others added depth. In shot put, Schuck led the team with a runner-up finish, followed closely by Kieszkowski and Halderman. Relay-wise, the Cougars secured a win in the 4x400 relay (3:51.39) and placed second in the 4x800 (9:34.98), continuing their strong showing in middle-distance events. Girls Recap On the girls side, New Prairie was equally impressive, particularly in the distance events. The Cougars swept the top four places in the 1600 meters, led by Natalie Klemczak (6:03.15), followed closely by Jillian Firanek, Ella Sanford, and Madelyn Lower. Klemczak also placed in the 3200 (3rd), while Janice Felker earned a victory in that event (12:46.82) after taking second in the 800 (2:31.38). The 800 meters featured a strong showing as well, with Felker, Mikaela Wilson (3rd), Sanford (5th), and Lower (8th) all contributing. Depth continued with Cora Buss, Natalie Klemczak, Afton Maynes, and Chloe Woodrick adding solid performances. In the sprints, Isla Wood led the way with a 3rd-place finish in the 100 (13.36) and a runner-up finish in the 200 (28.01). Eliza Leslie added points in both races, while Tori Jurkowski, Cynthia Medina, Olivia Rice, Bailey Futa, Tatum Haynes, and others provided depth across sprint events. Wilson also stood out in the 400 meters with a 3rd-place finish (1:05.00), followed closely by Rice. Futa led the hurdle group, finishing 3rd in both the 100 hurdles (18.08) and 300 hurdles (49.87), with Aubrey Schelstraete adding key points in both events. In the field events, Schelstraete placed 2nd in the long jump (13-9.50), while Leslie tied for 2nd in the high jump (4-6). In the throws, Chloe Deutscher led the team with a 3rd-place finish in discus and a 2nd-place finish in shot put, supported by Emma Deutscher, Addison Miller, Journey Lagodney, Valeria Montiel, and Emma Brownlee. The girls relay teams added solid performances as well, including a 2nd-place finish in the 4x400 and a 3rd-place finish in the 4x800. Looking Ahead Overall, it was a well-rounded performance for New Prairie, with victories in distance events, strong showings in the field, and continued development across sprints and relays.
