New Prairie Softball Splits Doubleheader with LaPorte

Game 1 La Porte scored six runs in the seventh inning, which helped them defeat New Prairie Varsity Cougars 11-0 on Saturday. Strakowski pitched five innings in relief for New Prairie Varsity Cougars. The pitcher surrendered five hits and two runs (one earned) while, striking out seven and walking two. Humes took the loss for New Prairie Varsity Cougars. The starting pitcher went one-third of an inning, giving up three runs on two hits, striking out none and walking two. Klingberg and Pease each collected one hit for New Prairie Varsity Cougars. Game 2 New Prairie Varsity Cougars won big over La Porte 10-4 on Saturday. New Prairie Varsity Cougars took the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the first thanks to three walks. In the bottom of the fourth, New Prairie Varsity Cougars broke up the tie when Keck doubled, scoring one run. Then a single by Harris followed to extend the lead to 7-4. Humes earned the win for New Prairie Varsity Cougars. The reliever allowed seven hits and one run over seven innings, striking out eight and walking three. Harris went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Flagg went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead New Prairie Varsity Cougars in hits. Luther led New Prairie Varsity Cougars with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. New Prairie Varsity Cougars welcome South Bend Saint Joseph on Monday for their next game.
