Varsity vs Michigan City High School New Prairie turned in a dominant performance at home against Michigan City, piling up top-three finishes across sprints, distance events, hurdles, relays, and the field.On the boys’ side, the sprint group was led by Noah Oberle, who placed second in the 100m and came back to win both the 200m and 300m hurdles. He was supported in the 100m by Maddox Waltz (2nd) and Lucas Halderman (3rd), while Leone Gennari (2nd) and Sullivan Young (3rd) earned podium spots in the 200m. In the 400m, New Prairie swept the top two spots in the fast heat with Evan Wiesemann (1st) and Waltz (2nd), while Young added another win from the earlier heat to give the Cougars multiple top finishes.In the field events, Graham Wiard claimed the long jump title, with Grayson Goodman finishing third. The throws were controlled by Landon Halderman, who won both the shot put and discus. He was backed by Robert Putz (3rd in discus), while Elijah Schuck (2nd) and Dorian Kieszkowski (3rd) completed a New Prairie sweep in the shot put.The distance crew once again dominated. Braden Bachmann won the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m, leading a string of top finishes. Aidan Jaronik placed second in the 800m and third in the 1600m, while Lukas Hannewyk added runner-up finishes in both the 1600m and 3200m. Isaac True contributed a third-place finish in the 3200m, as New Prairie controlled the distance events.The hurdles were another strong point, with a complete sweep in the 110m hurdles by Graham Wiard (1st), Connor Geisel (2nd), and Franklin Klein (3rd). Wiard also added a third-place finish in the 300m hurdles behind Oberle.Relay teams capped the effort with strong finishes, as the 4x400 squads placed first and second, and the 4x800 (Lukas Hannewyk, Ryese Lake, Isaac True, and Chase Shelton took first.On the girls’ side, New Prairie matched that dominance. In the sprints, Isla Wood won the 100m with Eliza Leslie finishing second. In the 200m, Bailey Futa took first, followed by Wood in second. The 400m saw Mikaela Wilson win her heat and place first overall, while Olivia Rice added a third-place finish.In the field events, Eliza Leslie (2nd) and Aerabella Churchill (3rd) scored in the high jump, while Aubrey Schelstraete finished second in the long jump. The throws were a sweep for New Prairie in the shot put, led by Chloe Deutscher (1st), Emma Deutscher (2nd), and Journey Lagodney (3rd). Chloe and Emma also went 1–2 in the discus.Distance events were a major highlight. New Prairie swept the 800m with Mikaela Wilson (1st), Janice Felker (2nd), and Ella Sanford (3rd). Felker came back to win both the 1600m and 3200m, with Elise Zelasko and Madelyn Lower finishing second and third in both races to complete two more sweeps.In the hurdles, Bailey Futa remained dominant, winning both the 100m and 300m hurdles, while Schelstraete added a runner-up finish in the 300m hurdles.The relays added to the team score, with the 4x400 and 4x800 (Madelyn Lower, Raegan Bicker, Jillian Firanek, and Natalie Klemczak) both earning victories, and the 4x100 finishing second.
