The New Prairie High School track and field teams turned in several solid performances Saturday at the NWI Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted at Portage High School. The highlight of the day came on the girls side where Janice Felker captured the 3200-meter championship, running 12:14.25 to win the event against a strong field. The Cougars placed four runners in the top ten of the race as Jillian Firanek finished 7th (12:51.10), Natalie Klemczak took 8th (13:14.27), and Elise Zelasko placed 9th (13:21.20). New Prairie also competed in the 4x800 relay, where Mikaela Wilson, Madelyn Lower, Megan Lanchsweerdt, and Sophia Hackett combined to run 12:15.24 and finish 7th overall. The distance girls had many personal bests across the board and looked strong against the tough competition. In the throws, Chloe Deutscher led the Cougars with a 7th-place finish in the shot put, recording a mark of 29-6.5. Teammate Emma Deutscher placed 19th (23-7.5), while Addison Miller finished 31st (17-11.5) and Journey Lagodney placed 34th (16-7.5). On the boys side, Isaac True paced the Cougars in the 3200 meters, finishing 16th in 11:25.53 in a massive personal best. He was followed by Evan Thibodeau, who placed 19th (11:56.81), Ryese Lake in 20th (12:15.30), and Ricky Corbett, who finished 25th (13:43.14). The New Prairie 4x800 relay squad of Braden Bachmann, Ayden Carpenter, Aidan Jaronik, and Lukas Hannewyk competed well against a deep field, placing 5th overall with a time of 9:13.28. In the field events, freshman Graham Wiard competed in the long jump, finishing 18th with a mark of 16-4. The Cougars were also represented in the boys shot put, where Landon Halderman recorded the top New Prairie mark at 37-7, finishing 14th overall. Teammate Dorian Kieszkowski placed 18th (35-3.5), while Elijah Schuck finished 25th (33-0) and Oscar Barrett added a throw of 31-8 to place 30th.
